Kittyland's sanctuary

Kittyland's history

The 3 acre sanctuary that Kittyland calls home in Desert Hot Springs has served as a vital refuge for animals in need. For over 35 years, this property has been dedicated to the protection and care of the Coachella Valley’s most vulnerable residents, evolving alongside the community it serves.

Our Unique History:

The sanctuary reached a pivotal turning point in 2014. Following a county zoning change, the property transitioned to a residential designation, placing the future of the many animals on-site in jeopardy. While the dogs were successfully relocated to another facility, the cats faced an uncertain fate. Recognizing the urgent need to protect these lives, Riverside Animal Services stepped in, placing the cats into protective custody while we worked tirelessly to secure the land.

Through successful negotiations, we officially acquired the property and Kittyland Cat and Kitten Rescue was born—transforming this historic site into a sanctuary dedicated exclusively to our feline friends.

Our sanctuary offers a peaceful and spacious environment designed for healing and socialization. Our location is uniquely situated to provide a quiet, secure atmosphere:

Expansion & Privacy: With only one direct neighbor—a friendly supporter of our mission—our cats enjoy a level of tranquility rarely found in urban shelters.

Indoor & Outdoor Spaces: Our facility is designed to meet the specific behavioral and medical needs of cats, providing climate-controlled indoor housing and secure outdoor areas.

A Lifelong Mission: While the name and the species have changed over the decades, the soul of this property remains the same: a permanent promise that every animal who enters our gates will find safety, dignity, and love
