Jana Hayes is a dedicated animal advocate and military veteran who has been a cornerstone of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s (PSAS) community cat program for over a decade. Her leadership is most prominently defined by her commitment to the welfare of community cats throughout the Coachella Valley.
Jana served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, where she was an active member of the Program Committee, evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of shelter initiatives. Her board tenure was marked by a hands-on approach to the shelter’s life-saving mission.
As the manager of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program, Jana coordinates a large team of volunteers to humanely manage the valley's feral and community cat populations. Under her guidance, the program has facilitated the spaying, neutering, and vaccination of over 10,500 cats. She is widely credited with transforming the public’s perception of community cats from "nuisances" to valued, healthy members of the ecosystem.
